Recording tips
Practical guidelines for tracking sleep
Check the clock, avoid guessing
Note the exact time you dimmed the lights and the approximate time your child fell asleep. Accurate timestamps are more useful than estimates.
Note night waking duration
Record both the time the child woke up and how long it took them to settle back to sleep, including what assistance was needed.
Track naps consistently
Daytime nap length and timing directly impact evening sleep latency. Record whether naps were voluntary, resisted, or missed.
Document sleep environment
Jot down room temperature, white noise use, night lights, or temporary disruptions like illness, travel, or loud household events.
